Balancing Gambling & My Future – Need Advice

I’m 20 and have been investing wisely, but gambling (mostly online blackjack and roulette) is becoming a problem. Late nights + drinks = bad decisions. I don’t want to derail my financial goals (FIRE is the dream). Quitting seems ideal, but if that’s not realistic, how can I manage it responsibly?

Man, FIRE and gambling don’t mix. You’re grinding for financial independence, but every bad session sets you back. Best bet? Separate gambling money from investment money—different accounts, no exceptions

Yeah, but quitting cold turkey isn’t always realistic. Self-limit your deposits and set a strict budget. If you’re drunk, don’t even log in. Ever tried using a blocker like GamBan?

honestly, just treat gambling like entertainment, not income. If you wouldn’t spend $500 on movie tickets, why drop that on roulette? Cap it at fun money. If it stops being fun, you’re already losing

100%. Also, automate your investments. If money’s already being put into ETFs, you won’t have as much to waste on bad bets

Good call. If it’s out of sight, it’s out of play. And if you’re gambling to “unwind,” maybe rethink what actually helps you relax without burning cash

respect for being self-aware, man. That combo—late nights, booze, and blackjack—is a fking trap, been there. If quitting cold turkey feels like too much, at least lock in some damage control. Self-exclusion tools, deposit limits, timeouts—use all that sh*t. Also, maybe stop playing after a drink or two, cuz let’s be real, drunk you doesn’t give a fk about FIRE goals

Yo, mad respect for having that FIRE mindset at 20 — most folks don’t even know what that is till they’re 35 and broke. But yeah, booze + blackjack at 2AM? That’s a recipe for torching your bankroll real fast. Quitting sounds ideal, but if you’re not there yet, set hard-ass limits. Use apps to block sites after a certain hour, play only with a set budget you’re 100% okay losing, and never mix alcohol with gambling. Keep your money workin’ for you, not disappearing on a bad roulette streak.

Facts, bro. FIRE’s all about long game and discipline, and slots or blackjack ain’t part of that blueprint 😅 I keep a tiny “fun” wallet for dumb bets, but my real stack stays locked. You gotta protect the bag, period.
