I live in Austin and wanted to bet on draftkings in Texas. So I fired up a VPN, set it to New Jersey, made an account, verified my email, and loaded $100 via crypto.
First few spins were fine. Played Blackjack and a couple of slots for an hour. But then I got flagged during a withdrawal attempt. They hit me with a “location verification failure” and locked the account.
Support asked for a state-issued ID and geolocation proof - stuff I couldn’t provide from Texas. My account’s now frozen, and I’m probably not getting my money back.
Lesson learned: VPNs don’t beat geofencing. DraftKings uses both browser and device-level location checks. If you're in a restricted state, like Texas, you’re gambling with more than your bankroll - you’re risking getting shut out entirely
